The Sixth Annual Thunder on the Colorado Biker Rally rumbles into Smithville, Texas on March 16 – 18, 2012 at Riverbend Park off Highway 71. Cruise this pine tree canvassed piece of heaven that’s so intimate, the closest interstate is 40 miles away! The legend returns as the party gets underway along the banks of the Colorado River featuring events such as live music rockin’ your weekend, your favorite vendors with their newest items, swap meet, delicious food, cold beer, fun run, bike show, field events, biker parade down Main Street Smithville, and finishing with a blessing of the bikes on Sunday.
The fun run will take place along wildflower-swathed ribbons of back country roads with Texas watering hole stops along the way. Return to Riverbend Park and check out the antique bikes before partaking in the wildest field events this side of the Colorado River! Don’t forget to check out the live demonstrations courtesy of sponsor Cowboy Harley-Davidson of Austin.
A $15 entry fee gets you access to the park for all three days of the event (gates open at noon on Friday, March 16). Attendees must be at least 21 years of age, and no pets or animals will be allowed into the fenced area of the rally. There are a limited number of camping spots available (tent and RV) by calling the Smithville Recreation Center at 512-237-3282 x7. Other lodging options are available by logging onto the Smithville Area Chamber of Commerce website at www.smithvilletx.org. More information can be found by visiting the event website www.thunderonthecolorado.com.
This year, we’re adding a Texas Hold Em tournament on Friday, March 16 at Riverbend Park for a buy-in of $30 which includes $10,000 in chips and a wristband for admission throughout the weekend ($15 value). Pre-registration is encouraged as walk-ups are not guaranteed accommodations.
Riverbend Park is located at 107 Highway 71 W, just off the Colorado Street exit. For more information about the event, call the Smithville Area Chamber of Commerce at 512-237-2313.
